Reading reflection: The OZ Principle — Getting Results Through Individual and Organizational Accountability
When I read this book, there has one sentence comes to my mind.
“Face it, Accept it, Deal with it, Let it go” — Master Sheng-Yen
The mindset is very similar to this book. everything in the world almost can go through those steps and get success.
Actually, this is a book already published in 1994. The Chinese translation also was also published in 2013. The concept of the book is surrounded by 4 steps of accountability.
This book has employed the story “The Wizard of Oz —Baum, L. Frank” as background and to describe the different phasing how we keep going. Each rule has its own purpose for Emerald City.
Dorothy: want back to Kansas, Cowardly Lion: hope has courage, Tin Woodsman: need a heart, Scarecrow: want a brain
They just represent the 4 steps when we are into a bad looping.
“See it, Own it, Solve it, Do it”
See it with courage, same as Cowardly Lion needs, Have the courage to face up to the problem. This is the hardest step I will say. In human nature, everyone wants to protect themselves first. Therefore, “See it” needs very “strong courage”.
Own it with heart, same as Tin Woodsman. Take responsibility, be your own master.
Solve it with wisdom, as Scarecrow needs a brain. Solving it by the wisdom is third step.
Do it, like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, only when she found that she already has many skills, use them and do it. Finally, she can reach what she needs. Be the master of your own destiny.
Another part of the book mentions how to guide your organization back to the upper of leveling. How to infect guiding the entire team in a Positive Way. From my point of view, disappointed, sad, and want to escape are all the human nature. But how to walk quickly through the dark abyss, then toward to light, it is more important. Sometime, just alone is very hard to do this. It always need encouragement from someone next to you. Then make it as habit to yourself and encouragement next one who needs.
In the end, due to this book, I re-read the “The Wizard of Oz” again with different perspectives. I learn a lot from those 2 books.
Hope you can have a chance to enjoy it.
